Services

Our Mission

As a ‘training clinic,’ the YPDC has two primary goals: exposing advanced graduate students to exceptional clinical training, while providing affordable, high-quality mental health care to greater New Haven area residents.

Who Are Our Clients?

We work with individuals aged 12 and up.

Individual Therapy

Our clinic treats individuals primarily utilizing a time‐limited, goal‐oriented, and collaborative problem solving approach called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Clients are matched with a qualified student clinician, who works with them throughout the entirety of their time at the YPDC. For more information about CBT, please see the ‘FAQs’ section.

Group Services

The YPDC regularly hosts 10-week mental health skills groups led by at a team of two student clinicians. These groups are structured like classes, not as traditional therapeutic support groups. Groups we have offered in the past include:

  • Mindfulness
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Cognitive Behavior Therapy

If you are interested in participating in a mental health skills group, please see the ‘Groups’ page for information on our current availability.

Medication

YPDC does not have psychiatrists on staff. We do not prescribe medication or provide medication management. We can, however, refer you to a psychiatrist or collaborate with your current psychiatrist if you are seeking supplementary therapeutic treatment.
